I met Jennifer when I was six. At that age, she encouraged me to sing in front of an audience. She treated me the same as her older students, which allowed me to learn so much about my voice and performance. She exposed me to folk, classical and foreign language music. It was her encouragement that prompted me to sing at talent shows, baseball games, and my church’s worship band.

While Jennifer is a great music teacher, she is so much more! She really cares about me, and because I grew up with her, I have life lessons that she taught me, and I use them to this day. I have been taking lessons from Jennifer Shide since 2009. I met her a few months after I had experienced a series of strokes, at the age of 20. I had always loved to sing, and my parents thought music should be a part of my rehabilitation.  Jennifer was recommended to us. Jennifer can hear the glimmer of a voice before anyone else can. I did not sound good in the beginning. In fact, I was pretty hard to listen to. However, within the first month, she convinced me to join her church choir. Next, she had me sing solos at her church and perform in her recitals. Now, with her steadfast encouragement and continued coaching, I have completed my first personal recital, and have begun to sing professionally. Jennifer has been and is a steady, positive influence on my vocal and personal growth.

Jennifer is an amazing vocal teacher! She was able to connect with my daughter, Haley right away when she began lessons with her when she was only 6 years old. She has a calm, kind energy, and possesses positive leadership skills. My daughter flourished under her teaching and took lessons with her for over 12 years. Haley had multiple opportunities to perform during that time. She sang at numerous Drake basketball games, Iowa Cubs games, Chicago White Sox game, Carnegie Hall, Newton Raceway to name a few. While in her teens, Haley decided to compete in pageants. As a result, she won many titles. This led us to move to California to pursue a career in music. Our first week in Los Angeles and Haley was invited to audition and landed a spot in a quartet for an all-female pop group called the BQ Girls (Beauty Queen Girls). There was Miss Universe, Miss America, Miss China, and Haley as the teen queen. During this time in her life, she met so many great people and even performed at the Pro Bowl as the opener for Steve Aoki. Jennifer not only taught Haley how to sing classically, read music, breathing technique, etc. but she also taught Haley how to perform, how to work a crowd, and how to be an entertainer. Jennifer is not only a great teacher but a great friend. She gave Haley the confidence to become the disciplined, young woman that she is today. Haley eventually determined that her passion and heart are in a different place. She is currently enrolled at NSU in Florida pursuing her doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a Concentration in Forensics. Her experience working with Jennifer and all the opportunities helped shape her into the successful young lady she is today. We highly recommend Jennifer; she is one in a million!
